Introduction

First, I would like to tank everyone Reef Central for making my dream come true. It’s an honor to have been chosen for Tank of The Month. Finally I would like to thank my family for all the support they have given me especially my son Bryan. Its because of him that I started into this hobby.

My name is Hugo Zuniga and I am originally form Mexico City. I now live in Westminster, CA. My screen name in Reef Central is SniperSPS, but in reality my son is the real snipersps, since he is the one how does most of the hard work, from answering all my pm, emails and helping me post pictures since I have very little knowledge about computers About 5 years ago is when I first got started in to keeping tanks in my house. Our first tank was a 5 gallon tank that my son Bryan purchased at the swap meet one day. This was started with goldfish which for some reason would always die the next day. Since we had very little knowledge about keeping fish we would always change all the water from the tank and even was it with soap. But as time went by we started to read up and learn on how to keep fish. From there our next tank was a 40gallong tank which contained cichlids, as the fish started to grow our next upgrade was 60g and then a 100g tank. Then after that I purchased a used 135g and that is when I first started a reef tank and that is when my addiction started.

How my addiction started

My addiction started with the 135g housing only soft corals. That only lasted about 4 months as I began to introduce SPS. At first I was not so trilled with sps since I told my self that they did not look as good as softies did when they moved with the current. 2.5 years passed and I soon upgraded to the current system. A 300g Eurobrace Lee Mar reef ready tank. Once I joined Reef Central that is how my addiction started to grow. As I met more and more people online I started to buy and trade with them. From San Francisco to New York from once coast to the other. One of the most influential person that really help in my sps addiction was Carlos (pucci). Every weekend I would got to his house and look as his tank and wished mine looked as good as his did, and every week I would come back home with my hands full of frags. One important not is that all of my sps colonies where all started from frags and I have grown all of them from 1-1.5” fragments. I did also go through some ruff time, when I introduced a montipora that had the nudibranchs. At first I thought they where some kind of fish food, as time when on I noticed that a lot of them where starting do die. Then one day someone told my that they where the cause of all of my head aches. I was able to save some but lost most of them. Then a few months later I noticed that my corals were loosing their colors and some where even dying on my. It was then that I realized that I had the RED BUGS. After 4 treatments I was finally rid of them, but I did loose all of my shrimps, pods and hermit crabs. Now its at the point that you see it here. Now all I do is sit back and reflect on all of my hard work that I have put into my tank and say to my self what a good job I did.
